Pregnancy
Anxiety
By Lorraine Roach
Today I found out one of my girlfriends is pregnant and suffering
with anxiety.
For those of us who
have been pregnant or know someone who has been , there are many
times in the 9 months that anxiety can creep into your mind.
When we think of the
miracle of life it is an amazing experience .
Why then does it have
to be spoiled with doubts and fears.
I know for me it was
mostly the unknown factor.
The more information
and positive people you can talk to, the better, as far as I am
concerned.
You may say that anxiety
can be brought on by too much information.
Knowing the things
that could go wrong is a way that negative thinking and conditioning
can sabotage the great experience.
Knowledge is power
as I have said in the past and just as negative thoughts can get
inside your head so can positive thoughts be put there too.
Years ago when I was
pregnant the doctors did not even suggest ultra sounds and all
the prenatal tests you go though these days.
Does this mean that
the babies born before all the testing, were more at risk?
I doubt that in my
opinion.
Obviously
if there are known factors to be considered ,a person takes the
necessary steps or if there are signs of distress you get it investigated.
Worry , stress, depression
and panic can all be factors in creating problems with a pregnancy.
What is the answer
to these issues?
I feel that the same
way you would deal with problems if you were not pregnant would
be a great place to start in ending anxiety.
You can use programs
to improve self image, fitness, relaxation techniques, and visualization
to name a few.
Doctors will help too
if you let them know you have concerns.
I know that all women
do not have easy pregnancies like I did but keep looking at the
joy of life and the anticipation of all the good to come in the
years ahead.
Get help if you think
of any reasons that you are not feeling well.
Keep in mind that anxiety
can be overcome and it too can last 9 months or less with the
right mind set and desire to move beyond it.
My girlfriend said
talking to others has been a help to her and getting some good
books to educate herself about pregnancy relieved many of the
anxious thoughts.
Anxiety can be heightened
when all the hormones change in the body .
Once again ,being aware
of this is a way to prepare for the feelings .
Find the system that
works for you and then someday you can pass on the positive ways
you used to another .
There will be some
people who try to have more and worse anxiety than you but it
is not a contest to see who wins an anxiety prize.
Listen to your own
common sense and trust yourself to make good decisions about all
aspects of your life.
Good thoughts and enjoy
the pregnancy to your best ability.
I used to say that
the 9 months was the easy part.
It is the next 20 plus
years that take the stamina.
"For 40 years,
7 months, 4 days and 3.9 hours I suffered from anxiety and panic
attacks - especially after my heart attack on August 12th, 5:00am
EST 2006. As a result of my suffering, I decided I would go on
a crusade to reveal the most powerful, most effective and most
successful system for living an Anxiety and Panic Free Life."
